Business Meeting - 6 PM, Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the American Legion, Greenville - The demo this month is “Tips & Tricks” and attendees are the presenters! Gather up your bag of tricks and show us what tools or techniques you use in quilting to make life easier. The Starlight Wish block pattern was removed from the external site, so please ask if you don’t have it for this month. Snacks are by Almira and Marilyn.

Fall Quilt Retreat - Nov. 13th through 15th., at the Ocean’s Edge, Belfast

Workshop - 9 AM until 3 PM, Saturday, Nov. 21, at Peoples United Methodist Church, Greenville Junction - “Tips & Tricks” where we will use those handy tricks and tools shown at the business meeting... Of course, you are welcome to work on your own projects, perhaps those holiday UFOs you have been trying to finish!

Workshop: Saturday, October 17 from 9:00 to 3:00
The workshop this month is the Log Cabin Tote. Details forthcoming at the business meeting.

All are welcome to attend our meetings and workshops. We love to see quilts and quilt-related projects, finished or in progress, during the show and tell sessions. We look forward to seeing you!

September 1st
Members and guests should meet at the Katahdin parking lot in Greenville at 5 PM to carpool to Marsha’s camp for the annual potluck dinner and business meeting. There will be the election of 2010 Officers and Committee Sign-ups.

September 5th
The quilt show! Stay tuned for set-up times. The show runs from 10:00 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, September 5th. See Quilt Show for more details.

September 19th
The workshop features guest artist, Kathy Stanley, who will teach us her method for turning an ordinary sweatshirt into a fashionable jacket.

If you are participating in the workshop, you will need to prepare the following for the Sweatshirt Jacket:

Materials needed for small to large:
• 12 coordinating fat quarters (or 6 half yards)
• Oversized sweatshirt with set in sleeves
• Half-yard for binding
Materials needed for extra-large:
• 14 coordinating fat quarters (or 7 half yards)
• Oversized sweatshirt
• Half yard for binding
Add fat quarters as you increase size of sweatshirt.

Before class:
1. Shrink your sweatshirt; shrink fat quarters if desired.
2. Cut fat quarters into strips as follows:
• Lay out 4 of your fat quarters as neatly as possible. It is helpful to press as you go to keep them lined up.
• Square off one side and one end of your stack.
• Cut across the stack to make the following 18” pieces (listed below). Cut the 2”, then 4", then 5" strips. If the last strip is slightly smaller, that is okay. Also, don't worry if your length is not quite 18". You will be trimming again later.
2 strips 2" x 18”
2 strips 4" x 18"
2 strips 5" x 18"
1. Repeat this with all of your fat quarters.

August 4th Business Meeting

We meet at 6 PM at the American Legion in Greenville on August 4th. Lynda S. will provide the demonstration. Lynda and Jan are providing the snacks.

Since the July business meeting was cancelled, there will be two block drawings! One for the July block and one for the August block. See Blocks for the block instructions.

The August Workshop is on August 15th. Lynda will be teaching the "I can’t believe it’s another sweatshirt", sewn on a man's sweatshirt. To prepare for the workshop, you will need a sweatshirt with set-in sleeves a size larger than your normal size. Men’s sweatshirts usually have set-in sleeves. DO NOT PREWASH your sweatshirt or fabrics! You should pre-cut your fabrics according to the directions below. Just click to open the PDF file.

July 18th Workshop

The July workshop is Saturday, July 18th from 9 - 3 at the Methodist Church in Greenville Junction. The workshop will feature the Nosegay block (see Blocks). You may, as always, work on your own projects.

The next business meeting is Tuesday, August 4th at 6:00 PM at the American Legion Hall in Greenville.

The 12” Kentucky Chain block will be drawn at the August business meeting, as will the August block. See Blocks for details. We hope to see several members who have returned to the area for the summer.

June 20th Workshop

If you plan on learning to machine quilt, you will need the following basic supplies, in addition to your normal sewing supplies.

- Sewing machine that can drop the feed dogs, or throat plate that covers the feed dogs for free-motion quilting
- Darning foot, either open or closed loop (upper right in photo)
- Walking foot (even-feed foot) for channel quilting (lower left in photo)
- 14-inch quilt sandwich (two pieces of muslin or solid color fabric, and same size piece of quilt batting with which to make a sandwich)
- Spray basting (I will have a bottle of 505 temporary spray basting that you may use)
- Thread
- Scrap paper and pencil to practice quilting designs before sewing

We will section the fabric square and try different techniques or designs in each. This is truly play time and you will soon be addicted to machine quilting and its possibilities. You may wish to use your square as a pillow front, too!

The workshop is at the Methodist Church in Greenville Junction and runs from 9 to 3 on Saturday, June 20th. Pack a bag lunch. Coffee and tea supplied by the club. See you there!

June 2nd Business Meeting

The business meeting this month is an important one, since we will be voting on a possible meeting night change.

The 12” birdhouse block is due. Please see Blocks for more information. This is a paper-pieced block and gives you the chance to create a very individualized block.

Paula and Joanna are scheduled for the demonstration. Snacks are courtesy of Linda Elizabeth and Dosey.

May 23rd Workshop

The source book for this workshop is Billie Lauder’s Quick Tricks Squared, available from her website: http://www.easymade.com.

Pick the block size you want and add 2”. For example, if you want 10” blocks, cut equal numbers of light and dark fabrics into 12” squares. This is a super way to use up extra fat quarters or scraps left over from your last projects.

May Business Meeting

The May business meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, at the American Legion Hall in Greenville, Maine at 6:00 PM. Show and Tell will be followed by refreshments and a brief business meeting. The demo this month is by Dyna and Paula. The Block of the Month is the Nosegay block. Snacks are courtesy of Bernice and Libby.

Guests are always welcome and we look forward to seeing all the wonderful show and tell projects that you might like to share with us. Works in progress are welcome, too, since we all enjoy seeing them progress to conclusion.
